Massachusetts College of Art and Design is a public, independent institution that prepares artists, designers, and educators from diverse backgrounds to shape communities, economies, and cultures for the common good. In addition, artworks in all media are informally displayed throughout the campus, in hallways, stairwells, ramps, outdoor spaces, and classrooms. MassArt is headquartered at 621 Huntington Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts, and occupies a trapezoidal block of old and new buildings it has acquired over the last two decades. Most of its academic buildings were the former campus of Boston State College, acquired after BSC was merged with the University of Massachusetts-Boston.

Will You Get Into Massachusetts Art & Design?

The essential operation of the Graphic Design Department is to provide students with an educational environment in which to explore theoretical, practical and technical applications relative to a variety of design problems. Through a sequenced combination of required courses in the major, studio electives, technical workshops and computer lab-based courses, students are exposed to intensive critique as well as discussions and lectures. They learn to speak intelligently about their own work and the work of their classmates, in preparation for the increasingly team-based professional environment in which they will find themselves upon graduation. As the teaching museum of MassArt, we help students, educators, and the community to experience the power of art.

We do this through architecture, landscape design, furniture design, engineering, planning, research, construction, film, and community engagement. The campus of Massachusetts College of Art and Design is located on the lands of indigenous tribes, such as the Wampanoag and Massachusett. We make this land acknowledgment to pay respect to these communities – past, present, and future – and recognize the painful history of erasure and ongoing violence toward indigenous people in North America and across the world. We acknowledge this part of our history to affirm our values to pursue a more just, compassionate, and equitable learning environment. We make groundbreaking contemporary art accessible to our community and the world—free of charge. We invite everyone to experience contemporary art, exchange ideas, and be part of the MAAM community.

Registration is Open! MassArt New England--July 14 to Aug 3

It is a member of the Colleges of the Fenway (a resources- and facilities-sharing collegiate consortium located in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area of Boston), and the ProArts Consortium (an association of seven Boston-area colleges dedicated to the visual and performing arts). MassArt supports its longstanding mission through public programs and educational offerings for local schools to make art and design accessible for all. This effort focused upon translating the college's priorities into a building program that enhances the academic and collaborative environment of the Design and Media programs, while creating a sustainable new signature building on campus.

The new Design and Media Center building serves as the formal main portal into the academic campus, featuring a large, spacious entry lobby that can accommodate very large temporary art installations and exhibits. Contemporary media laboratories, classrooms, meeting spaces, project and installation spaces, and galleries are also located here. There is a permanent graphic timeline history of MassArt and its predecessor schools alongside a long ramp at the side of the entry lobby, highlighting and illustrating the accomplishments of faculty, staff, and students over the years. The graphic design faculty inspires and advocates that students not only value structure, surface, and form, but also engagements and interactions of design with clients, audiences, and the culture at large.

MAAM builds meaningful relationships with individuals and institutions in order to spark positive change in our community. The renovation of and transformation to MAAM was the result of the largest private fundraising effort in the college’s history and we are grateful to the generous individuals and organizations who shared our belief that contemporary art should be experienced without boundaries or barriers. Our public grand opening on February 22, 2020 drew lines around the block, but thirteen days later, MAAM closed due to COVID-19.

Further along "The Avenue of the Arts" are Northeastern University, the Boston University Theatre, Boston Symphony Hall, Horticultural Hall, and the New England Conservatory of Music. During its first decade, the state rented space for the school in several locations including Boston's Pemberton Square, School Street, and the Deacon House mansion on Washington Street. In 1886, the state built the school's first building at the corner of Exeter and Newbury Streets, and then in 1929 moved the school to its second built campus at Longwood and Brookline Avenues. In 1983, MassArt was relocated to the former campus of Boston State College at the corner of Longwood and Huntington Avenues, after the latter school's merger with the University of Massachusetts Boston. Boston has designated Huntington Avenue as the "Avenue of the Arts", in recognition of the location of MassArt, the Museum of Fine Arts, School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, Boston Symphony Hall, and other educational and cultural institutions along this thoroughfare.

The Studio for Interrelated Media (SIM) undergraduate major is designed for student artists interested in a curriculum that supports idea-centered, interdisciplinary, and non-media specific artistic practice, alongside autonomous and collaborative working strategies and self-governance. In 2009, the Campus Center (located in the Kennedy building, at the corner of Huntington and Longwood avenues) was renovated, with additions of a new, two-story glass facade on Longwood Avenue, food services, and the college bookstore. The lower level includes ReStore, a student-run freecycling space to accept and redistribute surplus art supplies, materials, tools, equipment, and publications free of charge. MassArt is located on Huntington Avenue, which has been designated and signed as "The Avenue of the Arts" in Boston. The campus is also adjacent to the Longwood Medical Area, and its immediate neighbors on Longwood Avenue include Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Nearby neighbors along Huntington Avenue include the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (ISGM), the Museum of Fine Arts, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA), and the Wentworth Institute of Technology.

As a kunsthalle, or non-collecting museum, MAAM’s exhibitions are current, resonant, and relevant. MAAM proudly serves as the teaching museum for MassArt and has a passionate mission to educate, inspire, and empower future generations of artists, designers, and educators—both on campus and beyond. For prospective first-year students. You will learn about MassArt’s undergraduate academic and co-curricular programs that prepare students from diverse backgrounds to participate in the creative economy as artists, designers, and educators. The informational session will cover topics such as MassArt's student experience and admissions requirements.

How to Read Your Human Design Chart: Cheat Sheet

human design channels

It’s important that when you have this energy you be sure to communicate clearly. Always make sure the other person really understands what you just said and isn’t spinning fantasies around what they think they heard. The Channel of Fantasy and Desire is a powerful energy in the chart.

Channel Themes in Human Design

And, because one of the elements of the Individual Circuitry is moodiness the person left behind can wind up feeling overly euphoric or depressed – for no reason. The channel is subtitled "Genius to Freak" implying a great range of possible insights and expressions. Their focus is on strategies that will enable their well being, and then on how to actually express it. If they ignore that, the moment will pass and they will suffer for it. The best advice you could give someone with this channel is to listen to their instincts in the moment.

human design channels

Gate 48 – Depth / Well

The hot air combines with a low pressure area and you have this whirling vortex that races across the landscape. But it’s not really empty, it fuels the energy of the hot air with its lower pressure and sets it in motion. This is the pressure to Experience something (usually something emotional). This channel is the pressure for these keynotes coming from the root.

Gate 39 – Provocateur / Passion

Gate 6 may jump into conflict-filled situations too quickly; it’s designed to wait for clarity over time. By examining the circuitry in a bodygraph chart, you can gain a deeper understanding of an individual’s energetic makeup and how they are designed to interact with the world around them. This knowledge can be invaluable in guiding personal growth and navigating life’s challenges. If the mood is right, then this energy is heard and can be quite transformative. But if people with this energy try to communicate when the mood isn’t right, they often will come across as angry.

Human Design 59-6 Channel of Mating - A Design Focused on Reproduction

On the negative end of the spectrum, may have issues with focus and stillness, remaining immobile when action is required, and moving when patience is required. This energy controls the rules the community lives by, upholding or challenging the laws to ensure they continue to align with values. The independent aspect of energy within a community, of being separate from the group. The energy for standing up and fighting for the things you believe in. A strong sense of justice and finding meaning and fulfilment through campaigning for these ideals. A natural leader, but only truly effective and influential in their leadership when recognised, elected, and accepted by the group.

As society has become more complex so have the responsibilities of this channel. Our children require our support and our care longer than did in the past. They need education, values, and guidance in this complex world. In a sense everything in the world needs caring and fortunately there are people available to care about it all. Astrologically this is because we have moved away from a Saturnian Cycle where children grew up and became adults much faster than our new Uranian Cycle. The 44/26 is also referred to as the Channel of the Entrepreneur because of its ability to recognize what will appeal to the tribe.

An innate intuition for true worth, and an understanding that a conservative attitude will lead to the continuation of success and prosperity. This energy is concerned with the soul, and the unconditional love of whatever form of spirituality you prescribe to. Gifted in verbal communication of innovative and profound concepts and insights, with a natural ability to express truth with clarity and sensitivity.

57 Perfect Form Channel

In order for us to be secure in the patterns, we have to be able to finance that. By following these tips, you can gain a deeper understanding of your Human Design chart and use it as a tool for personal growth and self-discovery. By interpreting your Incarnation Cross, you can gain a deeper understanding of your life’s purpose and how you can fulfill it. This knowledge can be a powerful tool for navigating life with greater clarity and alignment.

Because of the effortless way you appear to work in the eyes of others, others might perceive that you “have it easy” and ask you to do more. It is helpful to create healthy boundaries and learn to say no thank you. Channel is about the energy to start something and also finish it. The task at hand has a beginning, middle and end and once you start there is a pressure to finish.

Located close to the Root center, the energy of gate number 18 is involved with perceiving flaws in order to critique, find faults, and ultimately discover ways to make improvements. The energy of this gate provides the determination to seek out answers and resolutions. Formulization energy is more concerned with finding possibilities than necessarily the correct answer. This post has been updated with additional information about this topic.

Recognizing and navigating these challenges can lead to personal growth and increased self-understanding. In the realm of romantic relationships, the Channel may lead to a desire for deep emotional connection and shared experiences. The potential for inspiring others with their emotional authenticity may also manifest as a magnetic allure, attracting partners who appreciate emotional depth and expressiveness.

It’s main focus is on making sure that the tribe has everything it needs (including order) to go on reproducing and tends to value individual sacrifice to ensure sustainability of the tribe. It moves through the bottom half of the bodygraph, through the will center, to the throat. These types of conditioned values and beliefs will create both inner and outer conflict. But those beliefs are part of conditioning rather than what actually feels true for you. Energy “turns on” the energy Centres where the active Gates are located.

It fuels a love of life and it pressures you to want to preserve this energy. Wait to share your correction or solution until asked and it will be better heard and appreciated by the listener. Intuitively fix patterns or align patterns to feel better or heal. A low expression of this energy can show up as perfectionism— but patterns are always subject to change.

Cases PSU Cooling Fans

fractial design

The principal fraction is the set of treatment combinations for which the generators evaluate to + under the treatment combination algebra. However, in some situations, experimenters may take it upon themselves to generate their own fractional design. The design of fractional factorial experiments must be deliberate, as certain effects are confounded and cannot be separated from others. Terra is a PC case designed and engineered to reshape the small form factor gaming experience. Inspired by the homes of modern gamers, Terra incorporates boutique design features such as thick panels cut from anodized aluminum, CNC-milled details and FSC-certified solid walnut.

Common techniques for generating fractals

Available in either chalk white or charcoal black, can the North XL land Fractal another notch on our Best PC cases list? We’ll have to test it to find out, but first, let’s take a look at its specs. In other words, it makes use of the fact that many experiments in full factorial design are often redundant, giving little or no new information about the system. In mathematics, a fractal is a geometric shape containing detailed structure at arbitrarily small scales, usually having a fractal dimension strictly exceeding the topological dimension. Fractal patterns have been modeled extensively, albeit within a range of scales rather than infinitely, owing to the practical limits of physical time and space. Models may simulate theoretical fractals or natural phenomena with fractal features.

If you don’t have the gargantuan Torrent fans as mentioned above, the top of the case can fit three 140mm fans. One of the few gripes I had with the original North was the thumb screws needed to remove the side panels, and that carries over to this larger model. I suppose it’s more secure than the pop-off pegs that have become increasingly common. But it’s also worth mentioning that the thumbscrews here are very stiff and require a screwdriver to remove. The wood front slats are a darker walnut on the black model than the oak used on the chalk white variant, and I think it looks great.

And you can install two more 2.5-inch or two 3.5-inch drives in trays housed under the PSU shroud. Power supply space is ample, at up to 11.4 inches, although that space lessens as you add drive trays and / or a front radiator. The Define 7 is the latest pinnacle of the renowned Define series, setting a new standard for what you should expect from a mid-tower case when it comes to modularity, flexibility and ease of use. Designed from the ground up, the Define R6 goes beyond iteration with a profound stride of innovation – a sizeable step forward from preceding models of the world-renowned Define Series. C. Escher, such as Circle Limit III, contain shapes repeated to infinity that become smaller and smaller as they get near to the edges, in a pattern that would always look the same if zoomed in.

Use of this style as an interior design element for wall hangings and more. Sound-dampened steel panels with an elegant push-to-lock latching mechanism encase an entirely redesigned interior with unprecedented component support and storage flexibility. Six 3.5”/2.5” drives and two 2.5” drives can be installed with precision placement in countless configurations throughout the case. North reimagines the gaming PC, introducing natural materials and bespoke details to make gaming a stylish addition to your living space. Leveraging design to give you a better experience, its airflow functionality and intuitive layout make building and gaming both smooth and enjoyable.

Fractal

It’s a strange time for PC cases, especially if, like me, you’re not a big fan of so-called “fishbowl” chassis with glass on as many sides as possible. Sure, on the better models, airflow has improved to the point where, with some smartly placed fans, you don’t usually have to worry about cooking your high-end components. Now Fractal Design is back with the North XL, aimed at beefier builds, with E-ATX motherboard support, and room for larger coolers and GPUs. The latter is particularly welcome because the Colorful RTX 4090 Vulcan OC just barely fit when we used the North to update our How to Build a PC article. Fractal was also able to keep the price of the North XL pretty reasonable. At $180, it’s not exactly budget, but it’s surprisingly affordable given its internal space and stunning external design.

Modern fractal art is created with an algorithm and calculations that create a result that might be a still image, animation, or other type of moving media. Most fractal art elements are abstract elements that have an obviously digitally-created look and style. While the Fractal Design North XLsports a familiar look, I’m glad that the company brought a larger version to the market. Despite the thumbscrews and still-not-quiet acoustics, the unique look and attention to detail outweigh those fairly minor issues, especially with its sub-$200 MSRP. Heck no, but for $180, the price isn’t outlandish for a case of this size, especially when you consider the fact it comes with three 140mm PWM fans and the wood accents as standard. If you want wood panels on competing Corsair cases, you’ll have to spend $70 or more, with the recently launched dual-chamber 6500 case line selling for $199 with no wood and no included fans.

For example, I’d love to see a brass front panel on this case to compliment the accents. The Core i K is set at a fixed 4.7GHz clock at 1.3v on all performance cores to ensure consistent power consumption across test scenarios. Letting the GPU run at 75% fan speed enables it to maintain its power target while sticking to one set reasonable fan speed, so that the temperature is the only variable.

Once again, I was blown away by the thermal performance of the Fractal Design North XL. Despite its wood-slatted front panel, plenty of air is able to flow into the chassis, thanks to the three 140mm Aspect 14 PWM fans. I’m tempted to buy some of these spinners to throw into my personal build.

Fractals can be the basis for beautiful background patterns or single art elements for design projects. One reason for the popularity of this design element might be research that shows fractal patterns are visually pleasing and even stress-reducing. For example, a 25 − 2 design is 1/4 of a two-level, five-factor factorial design. Rather than the 32 runs that would be required for the full 25 factorial experiment, this experiment requires only eight runs. By definition, a fractal element is a geometric pattern that is repeated with smaller and/or larger scales to create irregular shapes and patterns.

An open ATX layout with intelligent space utilization creates an unrestricted airflow path from the mesh front intakes directly through key components to exhaust, ensuring heat is never an issue. The Meshify C has a remarkably compact footprint with the high-end component support of a larger tower, and with seven fan mounts and multi-radiator liquid cooling capability, it has the cooling capacity to match. The resolution classification system described is only used for regular designs. Regular designs have run size that equal a power of two, and only full aliasing is present. They may have a geometric shape – or contain many shapes therein – or have irregular curves and shapes without symmetry. Within larger fractals, you can almost zoom in and find even smaller pieces of art.

Many of these patterns and shapes mimic things that might exist in nature, such as the nautilus (nature) as it pertains to the Fibonacci sequence (mathematical). This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. Because we’re reviewing the tempered glass model, our North XL did not include the side bracket for additional cooling. Instead, Fractal sent over their Flex 2 vertical GPU riser kit (an $80 accessory that’s sold separately). Fractal Design didn’t re-invent the mid-century modern wheel with its North XL.

Best Reusable Grocery Bags 2024

design patterns elements of reusable

The facade pattern is used to define a simplified interface to a more complex subsystem. A decorator allows to add behavior to an individual object, either statically or dynamically, without affecting the behavior of other objects from the same class. The Interpreter Pattern represents a grammar as a class hierarchy and implements an interpreter as an operation on instances of classes.

Waam Industries Grocery Tote

Note that the bag’s listed height of 25.5 inches includes the straps, so the actual height is closer to 13.5 inches. There is added complexity when aligning software design patterns with a front-end codebase, which can make learning a design language feel overwhelming. Reusable bags are a sustainable alternative to disposable plastic options, which often end up in landfills (or the ocean) and can take more than a decade to degrade.

The 10 Best Reusable Grocery Bags That Are Sturdy And Sustainable

Use the Interpreter Pattern when there is a language to interpret and you can represent statements in the language as abstract syntax trees. Behavioral Patterns are concerned with algorithms and the assignment of responsibilities between objects. If you’re building an application program (such as a document editor or spreadsheet), then internal reuse, maintainability, and extension are high priorities. At the end of the day, designing within a system will not completely transform the way work gets done.

Best Canvas Reusable Grocery Bag

The Steele Canvas Utility Tote blends durable materials with a multi-functional design, making it handy for all sorts of errands. It’s constructed from duck canvas, which is heavier and more tightly woven than regular canvas, and there are four leather segments to support the handles and shoulder strap. That leads to a high price but ensures you’ll get years of use out of the bag.

Chiefly, the canvas is waxed to resist scratches and guard against the elements, and it’s both leakproof and insulated. It’s also versatile enough for situations outside the grocery store; it’d make a great weekender bag, for example. Keep in mind there’s only one external pocket that’s best for small items. When choosing the best reusable grocery bags, small details greatly affect the ease of running ... Creational Patterns become more important as systems evolve to depend more on object composition than class inheritance.

The terminology used should be easily understood cross-functionally. A digital product design language is usually a cross-functional resource with the goal of improving workflow efficiency and collaboration for teams. This holistic perspective emphasizes a systematic way of thinking about design workflows, and it allows a design language to be easily applied when solving specific problems. The state pattern is used to alter the behaviour of an object as its internal state changes. The pattern allows the class for an object to apparently change at run-time.

Sure, there will be some new tools for connecting and managing complexities, but ultimately, it is a shift to a holistic mindset that will truly help improve workflows. The idea of a pattern language originated from architecture and urban design over 40 years ago and can be applied to just about any design discipline. The interpreter pattern is used to define the grammar for instructions that form part of a language or notation, whilst allowing the grammar to be easily extended.

Instead of using numerous constructors, the builder pattern uses a builder object, that instantiates and initializes objects using a multiple of steps. Using inheritance is recommended mainly when adding to the functionality of existing components, reusing most of the old code and adding relatively small amounts of new code. This object is sent to a receiver which executes the command. The advantage of this technique is that the requests can be queued, logged or implemented to support undo/redo.

Plus, it comes in so many bright colors and patterns that it’s hard to forget on your way out the door. The handles are large enough to slide over your shoulder and the bag can be tucked into the included pouch when not in use. Customers can purchase a single BeeGreen bag or a more cost-effective set, ranging from two to 12 bags. Rather than composing interfaces or implementations, structural patterns describe ways to compose objects to realize new functionality.

It shows that you can always replace inheritance with object composition as a mechanism for code reuse. Here, flexibility is needed because design patterns will iterate over time. However, while it is easy to change the color of a button, the greater system complexity must be considered at all times. While it may seem like a new way of approaching digital workflow, the concept of a design system is not “new” to creative industries. At the core of any design system is a language of design patterns that solve common problems a designer might face. Design Patterns are not analysis patterns, are not descriptionsof common structures like linked lists, nore are they detailed applicationor framework designs.

OH HB6 2021-2022 134th General Assembly

Gov. Mike DeWine vetoed HB 68, but lawmakers voted to override his veto. HB 68 prevents transgender youth from starting hormone therapy and puberty blockers. The bill has a grandfather clause that allows doctors to continue treatment on patients that have already started. The bill passed by both chambers along party lines last year bans gender-affirming surgeries, as well as hormone therapies, and restricted mental health care for transgender individuals under 18. It also blocks transgender student athletes from playing girls' and women's sports.

Voting Records

For a transgender male to participate in sports, he currently must demonstrate that his muscle mass developed as a result of testosterone treatment and does not exceed muscle mass typical of adolescent genetic males. House Bill 6 — which prevents trans athletes from participating in Ohio women’s sports — was rolled into HB 68 back in June. The would prevent men and boys from playing on women’s sports teams, but everyone would still be able to play on co-ed teams.

Legislation Documents

In those cases, voters could cast ballots in their car or at the door of their polling location. The bill, first unveiled by Senate Republicans last week, cleared the House and Senate amid the Legislature's busy lame-duck session. Proponents say the bill would restore trust in elections, but critics contend it's a solution in search of a problem that would ultimately disenfranchise voters. Yost argues in his 36-page motion that Holbrook’s injunction is illegal since it applies to the whole state, not just the two plaintiffs. But Clark argued the bill, in its entirety, addresses trans youth issues. Clark said the court proceedings should play out normally so the state can make its full case for why the new law is necessary.

The Ohio Senate has voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto against Ohio House Bill 68 in a 23-9 vote. This bill would ban transgender minors from receiving gender-affirming medical care and prevent transgender girls from taking part in girls' and women's sports. The Ohio House has voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto against Ohio House Bill 68 in a vote. The legislation in question blocks trans minors from access to gender-affirming care and from participating in girls’ athletics. HB 68 also bars physicians from prescribing hormones and puberty blockers to minors and creates penalties for those who do.

The departments filed proposed administrative rules Friday that would ensure both transgender children and adults are not receiving treatment from what he called “fly-by-night” clinics or providers outside of proper healthcare systems. Physicians who provide this gender-affirming care for trans youth would be "subject to discipline by the applicable professional licensing board" under this legislation. The bill includes exceptions for this kind of care for non-transgender youth. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost filed an emergency motion with the Ohio Supreme Court Monday in an attempt to stop a temporary restraining order against Ohio’s gender-affirming care ban for trans youth. One to ban gender-affirming healthcare for minors and another one to ban transgender women from playing on women’s sport teams. As part of their care plan, transgender individuals also must provide “sufficient informed consent” for gender-affirming care after comprehensive and lengthy mental health counseling, under the rules.

Roll Call: OH HB68 2023-2024 135th General Assembly

The drop box would be available at all hours from the first day of absentee voting to the close of polls on Election Day. These rules, unlike the executive order, are not in effect immediately. However, both the proposed rules and executive order are subject to change even though the executive order is effective — due to an emergency order.

She knows many transgender kids who are happier when they receive gender affirmation or care. “HB 68 will cause people to leave Ohio and no one should be forced from their home for any reason, but especially not because of extreme laws undermining their freedom and safety,” Adkison said. LGBTQ+ advocates who oppose HB 68 had a press conference Wednesday morning to speak out against HB 68 — arguing families shouldn’t have to decide whether it’s safe to stay in Ohio.

Boards of elections have until eight days after the election to determine what provisional ballots can be counted. Right now, voters can use alternative forms of identification at the polls, such as utility bills or bank statements. “One judge from one county does not have more power than the governor’s veto pen,” Yost said in a statement. DeWine also proposed reporting and data collection on those who receive care to better monitor quality of care, as well as implementing restrictions on "pop-up clinics" that serve the transgender community. "None of [the families] that I talked to talked about surgery," said DeWine in a Dec. 29 statement. "That's not where they were going in the discussion. And I think that's, frankly, a fallacy that's out there that, you know, this goes right to surgery. It just doesn't. All the children's hospitals say that we don't do surgeries."

Twenty-two other states have passed a law that blocks gender-affirming care, according to the Human Rights Campaign. Following his veto of House Bill 68, DeWine directed several agencies to develop administrative rules. He said some of the rules and protections he is putting in place go well beyond what is in HB 68. "I truly believe that we can address a number of goals in House Bill 68 by administrative rules that will have likely a better chance of surviving judicial review and being adopted," DeWine said.

“The sad truth is that the plaintiffs will also suffer immediate, very palpable harms,” she said in court Friday. “Sadly, HB 68 and other bills targeting trans and non-conforming youth take this peace, comfort and joy up the chimney like the Grinch stealing the Christmas tree,” Bates said. Evangelical Lutheran deacon Nick Bates and father of a 13-year-old nonbinary child said bills like HB 68 force trans children and adults back into hiding.

“The important part is protecting children and making sure parents know what’s going on,” he said. Gender-affirming care is supported by every major medical organization in the United States. Children’s hospitals across Ohio, the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association and the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians all oppose HB 68. “We await a final bill to review before offering formal comment,” DeWine’s press secretary Dan Tierney said in an email Wednesday afternoon. If a trans girl wants to play on a team with cisgender girls in Ohio, she must go through hormone treatments for at least one year or show no physical or  physiological advantages, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association. There were only six transgender high school female student athletes in Ohio, the Capital Journal previously reported in the spring. The Ohio Senate passed House Bill 68 in a 24-8 vote Wednesday afternoon and the Ohio House concurred with the Senate amendments in a vote Wednesday night. DeWine said previously that even if the Legislature would choose to override the veto, his administration will continue to pursue the rules and that he is working with his legal team to ensure that his administration can implement them. When asked if he had thoughts on the sports restrictions in the bill, DeWine said he "focused on the part of the bill that I thought affected the most people and the most children by far," referring to the gender-affirming care portion of the bill.

Judge puts short-term pause on HB 68 in Ohio prior to effective date

Ohio lawmakers rushed a major overhaul of state voting laws through the waning days of their legislative session that would change how voters navigate elections. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of two families whose 12-year-old transgender daughters would lose access to gender-affirming health care. Filed by the ACLU in March, the original lawsuit seeks to block HB 68 from going into effect on schedule and at all. It is on behalf of two 12-year-old transgender Ohio girls and their families, one from Hamilton County and one from Franklin County, and argues they would lose “critical, medically necessary health care” under HB 68. “This bill strips rights away from parents and bans children’s access to evidence-based healthcare,” Antonio said in a statement after the bill passed the Senate. “Physicians need to be able to have comprehensive care discussions with patients and their families, but this bill puts them in an impossible position.

He took a moment to speak directly to transgender people during the Senate session. Gender-affirming surgery for minors is not common, with less than 3,700 performed in the United States on patients ages 12 to 18 from 2016 through 2019, according to a study published in August in JAMA Network Open. It’s unclear how many of those patients were 18 when they underwent those surgeries.

Additionally, the departments must also collect data submitted by providers on gender dysphoria and subsequent treatment, and his plan calls for the agencies to inform lawmakers, policy makers and the public. The proposal would mandate a team for transgender individuals seeking gender-affirming care that would consist of, at a minimum, an endocrinologist, a bioethicist and a psychiatrist. "The decisions that parents are making are not easy decisions," DeWine said in the Dec. 29 press conference. One of the biggest provisions requires voters to present a photo ID when they cast ballots in-person. That could be an Ohio driver's license, state ID, U.S. passport, passport card, military ID or interim identification issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. We will fight vigorously to defend this properly enacted statute, which protects our children from irrevocable adult decisions,” he wrote.
